Overview
## The right shower for your mains, not just what's on the shelf
Every underperforming electric shower in the country is under-specced. Right shower, right cable, right RCD, hot water for a decade.

What it isSupply and installation of electric shower units, cold-mains fed, self-heated, independent of your boiler. Includes plumbing supply upgrade if needed, correct-rated cable and RCD, and full certification.

Who it's forAnyone in a flat or house across SE London upgrading, replacing or first-fitting an electric shower. Common cases: replacing a 30-year-old low-kW unit, adding an ensuite shower without upgrading the boiler, or landlords needing a reliable rentable solution.

When you need itWhen the current shower is weak, cutting out, showing fault codes, over 8 years old, or when a new bathroom/ensuite needs an independent shower feed.

Why a professional mattersElectric showers combine mains-pressure plumbing with a 30–50 amp electrical circuit in a wet zone, the highest-current appliance in most homes. Undersized cable overheats and fails; missing RCD is a lethal shock risk.

What’s at stake
## Why the cheap electric shower on the wall is a false economy
Every electric shower failure in SE London is one of a small list of avoidable mistakes.

### Underpowered shower, cold water
A 7.5kW unit on a mains-fed system in a cold Woolwich winter delivers a lukewarm trickle. Not the shower's fault, wrong spec for the property.

### Overheating cable behind the tile
Fitting a 10.5kW shower on the original 6mm cable overheats the run and eventually burns out the cable or the RCD.

### Fault codes and cut-outs
Modern showers cut out on thermal or flow protection when installed wrong, every time, and expensively.

### No RCD protection
An electric shower without a 30mA RCD on the circuit is a lethal shock risk and a Part P non-compliance.

Common mistakes we fix

- Buying the highest-kW shower without checking cable, RCD and mains cold flow
- Reusing the existing cable from a low-kW shower for a new high-kW unit
- Trusting a plumber alone (or electrician alone) rather than a joint install
- Skipping the flow test, under 8 l/min mains and a 10.5kW shower will disappoint
- Fitting without an isolator switch (required by regulations)

Our process
## From your first call to the completion certificate.

- 1
### On-site survey
Cold mains flow tested, consumer unit capacity checked, cable run inspected, RCD protection verified.

- 2
### Right-sized recommendation
We recommend a shower model and kW rating that will actually perform on your mains and circuit.

- 3
### Installation
Cold feed run and isolated, appliance mounted per manufacturer template, cable upgrade fitted if required, RCD confirmed.

- 4
### Testing & commissioning
Flow, temperature and thermal cut-out tested. Isolator switch pull-cord fitted and confirmed operational.

- 5
### Certification
Electrical certificate (Part P notifiable where cable or circuit changed).

Benefits
## What you actually get for the money.

### Reliable hot water
Right-sized shower on right-sized cable delivers the full flow at the temperature you set.

### Independent of the boiler
Boiler service? Boiler broken? You still have a hot shower.

### Cheaper to run per shower
Only heats water at point-of-use, no losses down insulated pipe runs.

### Safe by design
RCD-protected, correctly-cabled, isolator fitted: Part P compliant.

### Fast install
Most replacements complete in half a day.

### Long service life
Correctly-installed showers routinely deliver 10+ years of reliable service.

Technical detail
## The detail behind a shower that actually works
Electric shower selection is a three-way calculation, plumbing, electrics, mains supply.

### Mains flow and pressure
We measure static and dynamic mains flow at the intended supply point. 8 l/min minimum for a 9.5kW shower to run properly; 10 l/min plus for a 10.5kW. If flow is marginal, we spec a lower kW and better manage expectations.

### Cable size and circuit
6mm cable on a dedicated 40A MCB for 8.5–9.5kW showers, 10mm cable and 50A MCB for 10.5kW+ showers. RCD protection at 30mA mandatory in wet zones under BS 7671.

### Consumer unit and headroom
Older SE London properties often have consumer units without spare capacity. We assess and upgrade with a compliant new RCBO or consumer unit where required, in coordination with our registered electrician.

### Manufacturers we install
Mira Sport, Mira Advance, Triton T90SR and T80, Aqualisa Quartz Electric, Bristan Bliss and Glee. Each has specific plumbing and electrical requirements; we stock the correct spares.

### Isolator and pull-cord switch
A ceiling-mounted double-pole isolator with pull-cord is fitted within reach on every install, regulatory requirement, and a safety feature worth its £45.

### Landlord and letting properties
For rentals we spec robust mid-range showers with good parts availability and easy fascia replacement, minimising callback cost over the shower's lifetime.

Frequently asked
## Questions we hear every week.

How much does an electric shower installation cost?+£220–£320 for a like-for-like replacement including a mid-range shower unit. £380–£550 where cable or consumer unit upgrade is required. Fixed quote after site survey.

What kW shower do I need?+Depends on your cold mains flow and existing circuit. In most SE London homes 9.5kW is the sweet spot; 8.5kW where flow is marginal; 10.5kW only where mains and cable clearly support it.

How long does an electric shower installation take?+3–5 hours for a straightforward replacement. 1 day where cable upgrade is required.

Do I need Part P notification?+Any new circuit or cable change in a bathroom is Part P notifiable. We handle registration through our registered electrician; you get the certificate.

Which brand of electric shower is best?+Mira Advance and Sport are excellent reliability picks; Aqualisa Quartz Electric is quieter and more refined; Triton T90SR is the strongest budget option. Danny will recommend based on your mains and preferences.

Can I keep my existing cable?+Only if it's the correct size for the new shower's kW rating and has RCD protection. We test and confirm during survey.

Will an electric shower work with low mains pressure?+Below 1 bar and 8 l/min, no shower will feel powerful. In those cases we'll suggest a whole-house pump or a smaller electric shower with realistic flow expectations.

What warranty do you offer?+The manufacturer's warranty on the shower itself, registered in your name.
